MPAT-60 not keeping the date/time

If your PA Tester (PAT tester) isn't keeping the time or date it probably means the backup battery has died. It's a simple fix but please note -
Taking your tester apart will invalidate your calibration!

Okay that's got that out of the way. Now I'll show you how to do it. You'll need the following tools:-

Cross Head screwdriver
Soldering iron
A new battery. 3V lithium with solder tags. I used a VARTA CR2340 from RS (188-2133) at £2.74

First, turn you unit upside down on your workbench. Remove the rubber 'feet'. Under the feet you'll find cross head screws holding the unit together. Once you have removed the screws turn the unit back over and gently pull the unit out of its case. Turn it over (keypad facing down) and rest it on your work bench. The battery is arrowed

Base

Unscrew the 4 screws arrowed

Main Board

Unplug the 3 cables arrowed

Main Board

Unsolder the green cable shown arrowed.

Lift Board

Carefully lift the board to unplug it from the main board beneath. Turn the board over. You'll see the three pads for the battery. Unsolder the old battery and solder in the new battery.

Battery Board

Turn the board back over. Carefully re-align the pins with the sockets on the main board and gently push it back into place.

Battery

Reconnect the 3 plugs and resolder the green wire. Put the 4 screws back in and tighten gently

battery

Turn the unit back over, place back into case, put the 6 screws back in and replace the rubber feet.

Plug the tester back into a 230V supply. It should power up. Press the 'Set Up' button.

Board

Press the 'Date' button. Enter the date using the number keys.

Board

Thay's it. The new battery is fitted and the unit should now retain the time and date when it's turned off.

Usual disclaimer - if you do this and something goes wrong you are on your own! I accept no resposibility at all!!
